Battle of Evesham Festival

In 2014, we were appointed by the historical Simon de Montfort Society organising committee to undertake the press office function and media relations activity for the 750th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Evesham 2015 Festival.

The Battle of Evesham was fought on the morning of the 4th August 1265, between the rebel barons led by Simon de Montfort and the army of King Henry III, under his son Prince Edward.

Heavily outnumbered De Montfort's charged his cavalry into the enemy ranks. The battle lasted for some hours before turning into a bloody massacre. Both de Montfort and his son Henry were killed, along with around 4,000 of his soldiers.

Despite defeat, Simon de Montfort is hailed a hero, he fought for the people; a democrat and the man who set up the first true Parliament.

Evesham commemorated the battle and Simon de Montfort’s legacy in spectacular style.

Media activity and public interest throughout proved a resounding success with extensive press coverage during the campaign: media/sponsor launches, news and feature items, radio and TV interviews, sponsor profiles, general media liaison, copy writing for the festival website and other marketing collateral including programme and sponsor information packs, press packs, festival partner liaison/profiling and photography.

We also worked closely with the House of Commons communications team to ensure attendance by the Speaker was given the go-ahead and publicity maximised.

What they said

"Mark and his team completely engrossed themselves in the Battle of Evesham 2015 Festival. The one off event was the pinnacle of a two week programme of events and activities to mark the 750th anniversary of this important part of history. The project and all communications around it had to drive interest, financial support as well as awareness of the heritage. It was very much a community event with a very limited budget, relying on goodwill. Without the PR effort, it would have not been the success it was. The team made themselves available to provide resource and advice, gave assistance and guidance and produced on-point comms which hit the right audiences in both content and to which media it was sent."

"The Q Collective are a super-friendly bunch and very approachable. Their partnership exceeded what is normally expected from a PR company. They raised the profile of the event geographically beyond the county and achieved media coverage across the media including the Sunday Times, BBC radio, ITV and heritage magazines. Further, they succeeded in maintaining a high subscriber rate to our e-newsletters and a strong social media presence. Thank you!"
